Technology in Medical Education (TiME) Faculty Fellows Program Heading link

Academic Affairs at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria introduced a new program piloted in Fall 2021 for faculty looking for opportunities to explore, create, research and teach with technologies in a UICOMP curriculum. The first year of the Faculty Fellows Program on Technology in Medical Education (TiME) is focusing on Extended Realities (XR) in Medical Education - Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and 360 Video. Topics for future TiME cohorts will be announced as the program continues to develop. It is anticipated the next round of topics will continue under the theme of Extended Realities (XR).
  • Designed for Immersive Medical Education

The Peoria campus uses faculty-created VR modules to teach basic sciences, provide simulation exercises, and give students a creative space to practice new skills.

  • Selecting Our Next VR Platform

The Educational Technologies Task Force evaluated VR platforms for medical education to identify the best fit for UICOM-Peoria. As a result of their year-long process, Peoria has licensed two VR apps for our Anatomy Technology Lab and updated our equipment to HTC Vive Pro 2 and Quest 3.

The TiME Faculty Fellow program on Virtual Reality made a huge difference in my teaching. Immersive learning is going to be a pivotal piece of our students’ education, and it will be a considerable advantage for UICOM to offer this type of learning opportunity.”
